Introduction to the CO-OP Approach

A Cognitive Strategy to Address Motor Difficulties

Are your clients having difficulty acquiring motor skills due to coordination difficulties?

Try the CO-OP Approach – Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance – created by therapists for therapists. CO-OP enables individuals with performance difficulties, be they physical, cognitive, or other, to succeed in everyday tasks that are important to them (e.g., bike riding, jump rope, handwriting, tying shoelaces). CO-OP engages the individual at the meta-cognitive level to solve performance problems using the Goal-Plan-Do-Check framework.

In this introductory seminar, you will learn the 7 key features of CO-OP for meeting client goals and enabling success. This includes collaborative goal setting, dynamic performance analysis, cognitive strategy use, guided discovery, enabling principles, significant other involvement, and intervention format. to meet the patient’s goals and enable success. Erin will utilize case study videos with various pediatric clients to demonstrate the implementation of these different CO-OP features.

Be ready to learn about an evidence-based approach that will empower your clients to succeed, and truly change your practice! Closed Captioned in English.

*Originally developed for children with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), CO-OP has demonstrated efficacy in children and adults with a variety of diagnoses, such as, autism, ADHD, CP, TBI, DD, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, etc.
