Maryland PTs and PTA CEU Requirements
The following excerpts were retrieved from the Code of Maryland Regulations on 8/12/2026. Please note that we are providing this for your information only. It is the responsibility of the licensee to know and keep up to date with their state’s regulations.
Chapter 08.03 Continuing Education Requirement:
“B. Continuing education eligible for CE hours shall: (1) Be relevant to the professional practice of physical therapy; (2) Be directed to a professional audience; and (3) Promote continuous professional development.”
“C. The Board shall have final approval of the relevancy of the continuing education.
- Chapter 08.05 Renewal Requirements:
- “A licensee shall:
(1) Earn CE hours between June 1 and May 31 during the 2-year period before renewal; and
(2) Maintain records of the CE subject matter, certificates of completion, hours, date, and CE hours to present to the Board on request.
B. CE hours completed after May 31 of the year of the renewal may not be accepted.
C. All renewal applications shall be accompanied by a continuing education form to be completed by the licensee.
D. A physical therapist shall earn 30 CE hours for the renewal period.
E. A physical therapist assistant shall earn 20 CE hours for the renewal period.”

Are Apply EBP courses approved by APTA for CEUs?
Unlike AOTA and ASHA, the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) does not approve continuing education courses. PT and PTA continuing education approval requirements vary by state. For Maryland PT and PTAs, courses are approved by the Maryland Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. You can see courses that are currently approved above.
How do I know whether a course is approved for Maryland PT or PTA CEUs?

Click on a course you are interested in and review the CEU approval information, including the number of CE hours, inclusive dates of approval, audience, and instructional level. Do I receive a certificate after completing a course?
Yes. Participants who successfully complete the course requirements receive a certificate of completion or attendance which includes course approvals for various states. For PT and PTA CEU courses approved in Maryland, your certificate will also include the number of CE hours it is approved for, the approval number, and approval period. Requirements may include attending or viewing the course, completing attendance checks or assessments, and submitting a course evaluation.

If you are unsure whether a specific Apply EBP school-based PT CEU course is approved for PT and PTA CEUs by the Maryland Board of Physical Therapy Examiners, or if you would like a specific school-based PT course approved for CEUs in MD, email carlo@applyebp.com before registering.
