Are these courses designed specifically for school-based SLPs and SLPAs?
Yes, many Apply EBP courses are designed specifically for SLPs and SLPAs working in schools. We also have plenty of multi-disciplinary courses that are designed for SLP, OT, and PT practitioners, and educators, with specific discussions and applications pertaining to each discipline or for all IEP or school team members. Topics may address educationally relevant assessment, IEP goals, service delivery, documentation, team collaboration, AAC, language and literacy, social communication, executive function, and participation in various school routines.
Are multi-disciplinary courses useful for school-based SLPs?
Yes. School-based SLPs and SLPAs often collaborate with OTs, OTAs, PTs, PTAs, teachers, administrators, and families. Multi-disciplinary continuing education can help SLPs and SLPAs better understand each team member’s role surrounding a particular health condition, disability, or topic. It also supports shared decision-making, and promotes carryover across classroom, therapy, and school routines. For this reason, many school districts have found it beneficial to have their entire team of OT, PT, and SLP practitioners attend and complete our multi-disciplinary live workshops, on-demand webinars, and school-based OT, PT, and SLP symposiums.
I am new to school-based speech-language pathology. Where should I start?
If you are new to the school setting and looking for school-based SLP CEUs, start with courses and resources that explain laws and regulations relevant to school-based practice, and how educational services differ from medical or clinic-based services. It is also helpful to focus on IEP decision-making, school-based documentation, collaborative goal writing, and how to support students across daily school routines. Find more information for new school-based SLP CEUs by clicking here.
How do I know whether a course is right for me?
Review the individual course page for the topic, speaker, intended audience, instructional level, number of hours, format, and CE information. If you are unsure whether a course fits your needs or whether it is eligible for ASHA CEUs, email carlo@applyebp.com.
