Using Routines and Coaching as Therapy Tools

For Providing Interventions In-Person and Virtually

Are you struggling to connect with your clients to identify meaningful goals and design interventions that are carried over at home and/or in school? This course gives you the tools you need to shift your practice to include coaching and a routines-based approach to your assessment and intervention planning, whether you are practicing virtually or in-person?

Strengthen your relationships with your current clients! In the morning, Jen will walk you through the use of the 5 easy steps of a “Time of Day” (routines-based) approach  by immersing yourselves in videos of Jen engaged in routines-based conversations with families and teachers to explore critical natural “time of day” activities. Jen will reference tools such as the Routines-Based Interview, the SATIRE, and the School Function Assessment as options to assist with structuring a routines-based approach to assessment for OT, PT and Speech practitioners across practice settings and age ranges. You will learn to conduct targeted observations, create functional goals, and design evidence-informed interventions that promote carryover and achievement of meaningful life outcomes.

In the afternoon, you will reimmerse yourself in a video of Jen coaching her clients (child and parents) to perform self-care. You will see her discuss and demonstrate the different key characteristics, and skills that therapist’s need to hone for each of the 6 steps of the Coaching Cycle. Jen will then show you via another video how coaching can be used in the busy school environment to promote carryover by developing the competence and confidence in educators supporting the child. Jen will end the day with the 6 pitfalls you need to avoid, which may seem like coaching, but are not!

Leave the course with your toolbox packed with Jen’s Time of Day and Coaching Worksheets and Tools so that you can confidently apply what you learned to your every day practice!
