• • • “Effective September 1, 2009, to renew your registration as a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant, New York State Education Law requires completion of 36 contact hours of approved continuing education in each three-year renewal period. Practitioners whose first re-registration date following September 1, 2009, occurs less than three years from that date, but on or after January 1, 2010, will have to complete continuing education hours at the rate of one-half hour of acceptable formal continuing education per month for the period beginning January 1, 2010, up to the first re-registration date thereafter. Please refer to the chart below for the hours required during the initial phase-in period.”
    • “12. How many continuing educations can I get for each activity?

      ach approved provider determines the length of the course to be provided and then will determine the hours according to the following: The awarding of continuing education hours is based on a contact hour which is equivalent to 50 minutes of an organized learning activity. Thus, a program of two clock hours would be awarded 2.4 contact hours (120 minutes ÷ by 50 minutes = 2.4 contact hours). One CEU (Continuing Education Unit) equals 10 contact hours. Time for breaks, meals, etc. may not be included in the calculation for contact hour award.“
