Colorado PT and PTA CEU Requirements

The following excerpts were retrieved from the Colorado Physical Therapy CPC webpage and the Colorado Continuing Professional Competency Program Manual: Physical Therapists/Physical Therapist Assistants on 8/13/2026. Please note that we are providing this for your information only. It is the responsibility of the licensee to know and keep up to date with their state’s regulations.

      • Colorado Physical Therapy CPC webpage:
        • CPC requirements must be met in order to renew or reinstate a license/certificate to practice physical therapy by one of the following three methods:
          • 1. The Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program
            • Complete the Self-Assessment Tool (SAT)
            • Execution of a Learning Plan
            • Accrual of Professional Development Activities (PDA) Hours

              • Physical Therapists – 30 hours of PDA relevant to the practice of physical therapy and in line with a Learning Plan. A minimum of 20 of the 30 required hours must be in the Educational Coursework, Fellowships, or Residencies category.

              • Physical Therapist Assistants – 20 hours of PDA relevant to the practice of physical therapy and in line with a Learning Plan. A minimum of 15 of the 20 required hours must be in the Educational Coursework, Fellowships, and Residencies category.

      • Continuing Professional Competency Program Manual:
        • “The State Board does not pre-approve or accredit specific educational providers or programs.”

Unlike AOTA and ASHA, the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) does not approve continuing education courses. PT and PTA continuing education approval requirements vary by state. For Colorado PT and PTAs, courses do not require preapproval. Apply EBP courses fall under the PDA category of Educational Coursework. If you have any questions about continuing education approval, please email carlo@applyebp.com.

Yes. Participants who successfully complete the course requirements receive a certificate of completion or attendance which includes course approvals for various states. Requirements may include attending or viewing the course, completing attendance checks and/or assessments, and submitting a course evaluation.
