Peggy Morris, OTD, OTR/L, BCP is an OT with 30+ years of peds experience in early intervention, private practice & out-patient, but most of her experience & passion is in school-based practice. She coordinates the post-professional MS and OTD programs & school-based certificate program at Tufts University. She is Board Certified in Pediatrics through the AOTA, and a regular SeekFreaks contributor.

 

 

Lauren Holahan, PhD, OT/L has 20+ yrs experience in school-based practice as an OT, a district administrator, and a statewide consultant for OT. She currently serves as Coordinator for State Systemic Improvement Plan (Indicator 17), School Mental Health & Medicaid with the NC Department of Public Instruction. She also served as the Chair of NC Board of Occupational Therapy from 2008 to 2012.

 

Amy Coopersmith, MOT, OTR/L, MA, Ed worked as an OT Supervisor, clinician and evaluator for the NYC Department of Education for 17 years. She is also a prolific lyricist, writing songs about Children’s Self-Determination and Mental Health. She is passionate about promoting children’s self-determination and has provided workshops at national conferences and online learning communities. Previously, Amy taught Pediatric Assessment and Treatment at Mercy College and worked for ten years as a teacher in New York City. When you ask Amy about a children’s mental health topic, she’ll tell you, “I’ve Got A Song for That!”

At the completion of the course, you are expected to:

    1. Differentiate sensory integration theory and sensory processing
    2. Identify 2 forms of sensory processing disorders and their behavioral manifestations
    3. Determine 2 strategies that can be utilized to address the sensory processing needs of a client with autism so that they may participate in meaningful activities in the areas of ADL, play, education and others.
    4. Identify the 3 broad areas of executive functions
    5. Select 2 tools to assess executive functions
    6. Determine 3 executive function interventions that can promote participation in meaningful occupation for children and youth
    7. Select at least 3 ways for children to self-manage in order to promote participation in education, ADLs, play and leisure, work and other meaningful activities
    8. Identify the six-step approach to self-management that can be incorporated into therapy interventions
    9. Determine 3 ways to adapt self-management techniques for different populations.
    10. Select 3 effects of mindfulness practice to children and youth with and without disabilities
    11. Identify 2 “quiet” mindfulness practices to support physical and mental health
    12. Determine 2 active mindful movement practices to support participation in meaningful activity at home, at home or in their community

Webinar 2: 1.5 hours of lecture

    • Background: Executive Functions: 30 minutes
    • Assessment of Executive Functions: 13 minutes
    • Intervention Highlights: Strategies: 39 minutes
    • Case study: 15 minutes

Webinar 3: 1.5 hours of lecture

    • Intro to Self-management (17 mins)
    • Self-Management Strategies, Tools and Resources (38 mins)
    • Case Studies and Examples (38 mins)

Webinar 4: 1.5 hours of lecture

    • Mindfulness as an Evidence-based Practice for Children and Youth
    • Quiet Mindful Practices
    • Active Mindful Movement Practices

Post-tests: 10-item multiple choice. 70% correct answers required to receive a certificate for each webinar.

    • Apply EBP, LLC is an AOTA-approved provider of CEUs. You will receive 0.15 AOTA CEUs for each webinar completed, for a total of 0.6 CEUs (see imprimatur below for details).
