Are these courses created for school-based OTs and OTAs?
Yes. Many Apply EBP courses are developed specifically for occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants working in school settings. We also offer multi-disciplinary courses for OT, PT, and SLP practitioners, as well as educators and other school team members. These school-based OT courses may address educationally relevant assessment, IEP goal development, service delivery, documentation, sensory processing, handwriting, executive function, assistive technology, participation, and collaboration across school routines.
Are multi-disciplinary courses valuable for school-based OT practitioners?
Yes. School-based OTs and OTAs frequently work alongside PTs, PTAs, SLPs, SLPAs, teachers, administrators, families, and other members of the IEP team. Multi-disciplinary school-based OT continuing education can help OT practitioners better understand how different team members support a student’s participation, access, and progress. It can also strengthen team decision-making, improve collaboration, and support carryover across classrooms, therapy sessions, and other school environments. That is why many school districts choose to send their OT, PT, and SLP teams together toApply EBP’s live workshops, on-demand webinars, and school-based OT, PT, and SLP symposiums.
I am new to school-based occupational therapy. Where should I begin?
If you are new to school-based practice and looking for school-based OT CE, start with courses and resources that explain how school-based services differ from clinic-based or medical-based OT. It is also helpful to learn more about IDEA, educational relevance, IEP team decision-making, collaborative goal writing, documentation, service delivery, and supporting students within everyday school routines.
