Introduction to the Ready to Learn and Play Framework
Supporting Sensory Regulation through a Strengths-based Lens
COMING SOON!
Sensory regulation is essential for learning and social participation, yet it is often misunderstood and addressed through a deficit-based lens. For children with sensory processing differences, challenges like sensory avoidance, seeking, or overload are not “bad behaviors,” but important clues to what their bodies need. OT practitioners, and their interdisciplinary partners, play a vital role in reframing these actions and supporting children and youth to find regulation strategies that work.
In this webinar, Janis, Amanda, and Erin will introduce you to the Ready to Learn and Play (RtLP) Framework—a neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based approach to sensory regulation. They will guide you through its four (4) phases: exploring sensory experiences, identifying sensory choices, generalizing strategies across people and settings, and applying them in real-life contexts. Using practical tools such as “ME Stories,” sensory choice cards, and the Functional Learning Assistance Guide (FLAG), you will learn how to empower children to recognize their own sensory clues and expand their own repertoire of regulation strategies.
Through case studies from elementary through young adult transitions, with varying cognitive levels, the presenters will demonstrate how the RtLP Framework can be embedded into therapy sessions, classrooms, and community routines. They will also highlight how OT/As can collaborate with teachers, PT/As, SLP/As, and families to ensure individualized application of varying strategies across settings.
Leave this course with a clear framework, practical tools, and ready-to-use strategies to support your clients’ sensory needs the very next day. Closed Captioned in English.
